Berlin, Germany’s Star FM hosted a Blue October acoustic concert on August 26th. The cool thing about this concert was that it took place on a boat that was cruising on the Spree River. I’m not sure which venue is cooler- the castle I posted about yesterday or this boat venue. Both of them would have been incredible to see!
The set list included Ugly Side, Say It, Dirt Room, Come In Closer, Into the Ocean, Clumsy Card House, Jump Rope, Calling You, Hate Me and 18th Floor Balcony.
Video of the most of the songs performed at the concert can be seen here. Pictures from the concert can be seen here.

Yesterday was Independence Day here in the US so I thought it would be appropriate to have today’s Music Monday be performances of our national anthem.
This is Justin singing the Star Spangled Banner at the Houston Texans Game on December 9, 2007. (Justin starts singing about 1:20)
Justin also performed the Star Spangled Banner at the St. Louis Blues Game on October 10, 2007. You can see that video here.
According to BlueOctoberCrew on Twitter Ryan performed the Star Spangled Banner at their concert in Atsugi. Video of that performance hasn’t surfaced yet so here’s a video of the song from the concert in New Braunfels, Texas on July 5, 2008.
Ryan also performed the Start Spangled Banner at the KMC Rockin’ 4th in Germany on July 4, 2009. You can video of that performance here. (Ryan plays the SSB at 7:55)

Yesterday was Father’s Day so it only seemed appropriate to pick a song for Music Monday that was written by a father for his little girl. I’m the only girl in my family so I’ve always been a Daddy’s girl. This song has a message in it that my father has taught me well and has helped me make it through those tough times.
There willl be a bump and there will be a bruise
There will be alarms and there will be a snooze
There will be a path that you will have to choose
There will be a win and there will be a lose
You gotta hold your head up high and
Watch all the negative go by
Don’t ever be ashamed to cry
You go ahead
Cause life’s like a jump rope
I loveKathryn Olsen jumping rope during this performance- how fun!
A couple of my friends that have had babies in the last few weeks. Even though I don’t have children of my own as I look at these little miracles I can understand the love, adoration, and awe that is expressed in Blue Does.
I’ve admitted before that I completely blame (and thank) Stephenie Meyer for bringing Blue October into my life. She introduced them to me when she published her playlists (and through the Breaking Dawn tour with Justin but that’s not the point of this post).
Well, Stephenie is to blame for today’s Music Monday choice. She published a novella this past week (The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner) and along with it she posted her playlist. Once again, Blue October is on the list. This time it’s What If We Could. Having spent the weekend reading the book made this song the natural choice for today’s Music Monday.
Small rant (just because I can) Summit- ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?!?!?!!?
It’s Memorial Day here in the US so this song and this performance in particular seemed appropriate. I love what Justin says at the beginning of this clip- “It’s the most brave, courageous, amazing thing I’ve ever seen in my life. And I have to give back to you and I wrote this song for you guys. I love you very, very much. Thank you so much.”
This song has gotten me through so much drama with my dignity intact. When I want to throw a tantrum like a 2 year old or start pointing fingers and naming names I just remember “I close the door on the war I started last Halloween. I’m gonna be fine again, I have to keep graceful dancing.”
I have been looking everywhere for good video of For My Mother but haven’t been able to find one that you could actually hear over the screaming fans. Luckily Ryan performed it Saturday night at Stubb’s for his Mom and angeleinaustin caught it on video.
Today’s Music Monday is for my Mom, who is my best friend, and all those other amazing moms out there- thank you for all that you do!! I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day!
I love it when my ipod is on random and has a psychic moment and plays exactly the right song for that moment. I had one of those moments yesterday and it inspired my Musical Monday choice. Spring has finally arrived in Utah and as I was driving with my sunroof open and my windows down this song came on. It made an wonderful moment even better. I know it sounds cheesy but I don’t even care, I just enjoyed it.
I love the version of this song that is on Approaching Normal but I also have a special place in my heart for the Breaking Dawn Concert version because it was the first time I heard the song so you get both versions today. Happy Monday!!
How did it get to be Monday again?!?! It’s been a quiet week for Blue October news but that’s all about to change since the Pick Up the Phone Tour kicks off next week. (Only 13 days until I see them in DC, but who’s counting? )
This song has been stuck in my head lately so it seemed to be the natural choice for my Music Monday pick this week. This video is from the Stubb’s concert on 11/21/09. Enjoy! Have a great Monday!
